Design and illustrationJ Class Americas Cup
The J Class Association needed an identity for their Barcelona Regatta, a race that marked the first time J Class yachts had competed on the same waters as the modern AC75s and AC40s of the America’s Cup itself.
The J Class boats represent one of the most visually iconic eras in sailing history, racing only between 1930 and 1937 before disappearing for decades. That heritage demanded a visual language that honoured the era while feeling contemporary enough to sit alongside the modern event.
Taking inspiration from the bold, poster-art tradition of vintage America’s Cup artwork, I created an identity and illustration that nodded to the golden age of the class while referencing the modern fleet to show the dramatic scale difference between the two generations of yacht. The identity was rolled out across presentations, marketing materials and brochure ware for the event.
